Cathexis

This programme exposes delegates to new coaching techniques and provides insights into the layered landscape of the human psyche. It takes each person on their own journey, familiarising them with three levels of awareness as they explore their issues. This results in more meaningful coaching interventions. Attendees begin to recognise at which level their clients are experiencing a challenge. This allows them to apply the right coaching technique for the right level of thinking.

Successful employees understand the benefits of development conversations. They require support. High potential recruits want a roadmap for their development; HR professional need parallel development processes as they “performance-manage” staff and the most senior executives seek help to navigate the political landscape of the boardroom.

By its nature, a coaching conversation provokes change in a person. It confronts their perceptions. Business leaders have robust egos and it requires skill and insight to provoke self-reflection.

On Cathexis, the Quaich team share their secrets of how to strengthen the relationship with a client while challenging them into improved performance. Delegates are shown how to mirror back the limiting parts of someone’s personality and offer them ways of growing beyond these. We explore how to guide someone through their emotional maze and discover what is most important to them as a leader.

The programme

Day 1: The Coach as a Challenger

We do not see the world as it is. We see it through the stories we tell ourselves. Information is deleted, distorted and generalised to match our narratives and, in the absence of challenge, we become cyclical and selective about what we accept as real. We teach delegates what to look for in someone’s perceptual filters and offer ways to challenge it appropriately. Using the meta-model, from NLP and dualism, we offer powerful insights and questions that dismantle someone’s “stuck” way of seeing the world.

Day 2: The Coach as a Mirror

Repeating patterns of perception and emotional responses make up our personality. Our ways of interacting with the world become habitual. These repetitive transactions eventually “get into the muscle,” literally. According to Wilhelm Reich, patterns of experiencing the world ultimately show up in our physical holding pattern: in the shape of our bodies. We introduce the theory of bioenergetics. Delegates learn to read people’s muscular armoury and offer them insight into choices they have about their leadership impact.

Day 3: The Coach as a Guide

We experience the world with more than our minds. We experience it through our feelings too. As sentient beings our intuition, emotions and sensations inform us about our circumstances. Coaching someone at this level involves understanding emotions and their core motivations. We help delegates identify which emotions are at work, how to steer the client through their defensiveness and use resistance to guide the client into deeper knowledge about what they are leading for.

When we reach the core within a client, we touch the authentic leader inside. This releases incredible drive, creativity and responsiveness from the individual resulting in a bigger impact and more resilient leadership.
